This year new postal administrations enrolled for this year's international trade fair Collector in Prague. Immediately after the New Year the organisers received applications from the postal administrations of the Republic of Turkey, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Cyprus and the Switzerland. Visitors will undoubtedly swarm over their stands with postage stamps and revenue stamps, especially as they have not yet had the opportunity to see their new editions in the Czech Republic. All three countries, which are of interest from the aspect of collectors, will undoubtedly meet with the interest of visitors from abroad.
Last year, Mrs Monique Salmon from France participated at the trade fair for the first time. In the field of telephone cards, collectors were highly appreciative of the large collection, primarily from Caribbean countries. The standard of the trade fair and the interest in telephone cards was a pleasant surprise, and so it is no wonder that this year she is returning to Prague.
Exhibitors offering minerals and gems and items from natural materials are a suitable compliment to the main fields of the trade fair, i.e., philately and numismatics.
In the firm Mineral Metal, which is a regular guest at the trade fair, they say that it is a matter of primary interest to women. This year the organisers are trying to support this interesting collecting and "decorative" field at the trade fair. And for this reason women will have free entry to the trade fair. In addition to this, in the neighbouring exhibition hall, the international fair Beauty (held by another organisation) will be held, focussing on cosmetics and body care. And so it may be assumed that this year there will be many girls and women at the trade fair.
In mid January the organisers sent out prospectuses and application forms for this year's Collector to all exhibitors who have exhibited during the six years of the trade fair and also to another two thousand addresses throughout the world. It is expected that the majority of exhibitors will apply in the spring so that they can claim the ten-percent discount on all prices (see information for exhibitors on title page).
In the news bulletin No. 2 we brought news that in January Czech Television would be airing a programme filmed at the last Collector trade fair. But as we have now been informed by the ČT producer David Berdych, the new regular programme Intro, where the material was to be transmitted, has been cancelled (evidently as a result of budget cuts). And so the trade fair Collector should appear at some time in the future in the youth programme Pomeranč on the channel ČT2. Czech Television will inform the trade fair organisers of the broadcast in good time.
The Czech mint has so far always participated only at the World Money Fair in Basle. For the first time last year it made its appearance in Prague at Collector, and according to the director of the department for the sale of coins and medals, Libor Křapka, it was highly satisfied with its participation. Not only did it achieve remarkable sales to collectors, but it also participated in discussions with large foreign buyers. Understandably it will be returning to the trade fair this year too. And it certainly will have something to offer. Out of the extensive issue plan for this year we might mention at least the striking of a coin on the occasion of the entry of the Czech Republic to the EU. In April, it will issue silver and bicolour (Ag+Au) coins, and in mid May it will issue a commemorative medal in a run of only two hundred and a proof set of year 2004 circulation coins in a run of 4000.
