We cordially invite you to the “Christmas Sberatel – Collector Fair“, where you will find an ample offer of coins, banknotes, post stamps, postcards, but also books, posters, graphic art, vintage ads, and other collector’s items.
The fair not only gives you an opportunity to buy some additions to your collection, but will also provide a source of inspiration for gifts for your friends and family members. Each piece displayed at the Sberatel fair is an original with its own story, which can make someone happy and can also turn into an interesting investment in future years.
The “Christmas Sberatel – Collector Fair“ features a rich accompanying programme, including autograph sessions of renowned graphic artists, displays of collector’s rarities, or christening ceremonies of new products.
It was one wheel short of being a proper car, yet the Velorex became a true cult classic. The story began with brothers František and Mojmír Stránský from Česká Třebová city, who built the first prototype in 1943.
The simple and inexpensive design even survived the political changes of 1948. Production was later moved to Solnice town, where it began in earnest in 1951.
The two-seater featured a lightweight tubular steel frame covered in artificial leather instead of a conventional metal body. This unusual “coat” earned it a whole collection of nicknames, including „Hadrák“ (Ragtop), „Hadraplán“ (Ragplane) and „Prchající stan“ (Runaway Tent).
The most popular version was the Velorex 16/350, introduced in 1963. Powered by a two-stroke, twin-cylinder Jawa engine producing 16 horsepower, the vehicle weighed approximately 310 kilograms and could reach a top speed of 85 km/h.
By the time production ended in November 1971, more than 15,000 three-wheelers had been built, with roughly half exported abroad.
The Velorex also secured its place in Czech film history thanks to actor Josef Abrhám, who drove one as the fake waiter Dalibor Vrána in the popular comedy „Vrchní, prchni!“ („Run, Waiter, Run!“).
A special 0 Euro souvenir banknote featuring the Velorex, together with a personalised nine-stamp sheet issued by Czech Post, will make their debut at the Christmas Sberatel Fair in Prague. The 0 Euro souvenir banknote will be issued in a limited edition of 3,000 pieces, including 300 presented in a special collector’s folder.
The artwork was created by Roman Sedlák (left), a designer of numerous postage stamps and a passionate classic car enthusiast himself.
Alongside the nine-stamp sheet, visitors will also be able to purchase postcards, a commemorative print and a vintage-style metal sign at the Sberatelshop.cz stand.
Visitors will also be able to have their own collections appraised by experts from professional organisations directly at the fair. Visitors will have access to experts from the Czech Philatelists’ Union (postage stamps), the Czech Numismatic Society (coins, medals, banknotes), the Autograph Collectors’ Club (signatures) and the Museum of Securities (shares, securities).
